The Spooky South

Last week we escaped to New Orleans for a long weekend. This was my first time to the Big Easy and I have to admit, I think October is truly the best month to plan a trip.
While this old city has its fair share of beads and beignets, there is also a darker side filled with voodoo, spirits and hints of the beyond ... a perfect city for the month of Halloween.

Porches, stoops and mansions adorned with ghouls, ghosts and spiders make for a spooky sight

The back alleys and dark lanes of the French Quarter have more than a few witchcraft shops where one can delve into black magic, potions, spells and even pick up a few voodoo dolls

Some apartments even cast a blood red light in the night which would feel haunting any time of year

and even the high-end salons have a hint of morbid -chic in the form of candle holders
